Next Practice Partners is thrilled to build on the 2022 launch of the world's 1st Social Media Engagement Rankings for the Parks and Recreation industry with an even more comprehensive rankings report for 2023.
In a world where squirrels can become Instagram influencers and ducks are known for their Twitter quacks, these rankings prove it's not all about laughs and likes.
Behind every post, tweet, and share, there's a story of the importance of parks and recreation as an industry.
These digital diaries remind us that behind every screen, there's an invitation to step outside, take a deep breath, and cherish open spaces and our planet.
What's New: The rankings have expanded from the Top 100 cities by population to include all cities over 100,000 population nationwide. It also includes the most improved agencies and trending data from 2022 to 2023 to show shifts in social media strategies and effectiveness.
"The response to the inaugural rankings was overwhelming with agencies seeking insights to enhance their storytelling. The expanded rankings highlight the best agencies, not just the largest ones so our industry can learn from all these next practitioners." said Neelay Bhatt Founder & CEO of Next Practice Partners.
Currently, one in three individuals, do not participate in their local parks and recreation agency's offering because "they do not know what is being offered" per benchmark data by ETC Institute, the national leader in statistically reliable surveys for parks and recreation agencies. "That's millions of people that are left behind due to lack of awareness and that has to change." said Bhatt.
Rankings: For the second year in a row, Cleveland Metroparks, OH ranked at the top of the overall list followed by Chattanooga, TN and Cincinnati Parks, OH.
"The way social media is being used to enhance the quality of life for people using parks and recreation, it is a great validation to be on top for a second year in a row." said Cleveland Metroparks CEO Brian M. Zimmerman. "Our marketing and communications team really deserve all of the credit for continuing to adapt and change how we reach our guests."
Model: The rankings are based on data from the U.S. Census, National Recreation and Park Association, ETC Institute, agency websites and social media accounts, and social analytics tools. Collectively, it ranks engagement for Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), and YouTube to create a model for Social Media Engagement. Tik Tok rankings are provided but not factored in the model since it may not be permissible for use for all agencies.
To all the parks and recreation professionals, we salute you. Keep the posts coming, because in a world that can sometimes feel too connected to technology, you remind us of the connection we share with the world around us - a world that's worth protecting, exploring, and of course, sharing.
